Readings for Interactive Digital Media
These readings will provide some background and explanation of the definition and history of interactive art.
Please read the first three articles for Tuesday morning's discussion. Please read the Vierkant, Hook, and Robertson articles before Thursday.
The Bishop article is an interesting view of how the art world sees the New Media Art world and digital aspects of art, in general. I found it worth reading, and it's not long. The Suchman article is from early in the history of human-machine interaction and discusses the difficulty of using actions to communication plans and intentions.
The Quarenta and Stern books are good reads if you are interested in pursuing the field further, but ithey are not required for this course. Both are available as low-cost e-books.
