Bio

My research focus is on supporting source code reading and comprehension by modeling user behavior and eye movement during software development. I started my teaching career at Hamilton college, where I taught Operating Systems and Wearable Technology among other topics. I received my PhD from Kent State University in 2020, where I am a member of the Software Development Laboratory (SDML). My dissertation focuses on modeling eye movement control in reading source code, and my research interests include eye tracking, program comprehension, and software engineering. My Values:

• I believe that anyone can become a computer scientist if they work hard. Perhaps this is inspired by “Anyone Can Cook” from the 2007 movie Ratatouille. No matter your ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sex, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation, programming experience, and geographical area you can succeed and lead in CS.
• I believe that we need more diversity in tech. We tend to create technology in our own image, and if a large portion of the population is excluded from tech, then the technologies we make will exclude and discriminate.
• I believe that we can succeed in research in a supportive environment where ideas are discussed, accepted, or rejected but everyone is included and respected.
• I believe that the technologies we teach and create should support humanity, and not replace it.
